This Charatan Distinction grade hand made pipe is unique and was crafted by one of the finest pipe makers in London more than 20 years ago. This pipe has a square shank and is fitted with the famed Charatan Double Comfort mouth piece. An exceptional piece of briar was used for this pipe and the finish stain highlights the wonderful straight grain on both the bowl and shank of this half-bent.
Based on my knowledge of the prior owner, I recall that he purchased this pipe in London in the early 1980's. Thus it does not have the florid "L" Lane emblem as that was used only for pieces imported to the US. He took pride in his collection and this is reflected in the condition of this Charatan. The nomenclature on the shank is clear and crisp.
This pipe is flawless in all respects. There are no sand pits, no fills and the draw hole is perfectly center at the base of the chamber. With a slight twist, a pipe cleaner passes easily. The rim of the bowl is clean, like new, and has nice birdseye grain. The chamber capacity is equivalent to a deep Group 6.
This piece feels fine in the hand and the half-bent shank will make the pipe feel extremely light when you smoke it. The pipe is well balanced. And, with the thick walls of the bowl, you'll enjoy a nice, cool smoke.
This Charatan will make a fine addition to your collection and rotation and should provide many happy hours of use for years to come.

To remove the tobacco residue from the previous owner, the bowl has been carefully reamed and then the interior of the stem, shank and bowl of this "Previously Enjoyed Pipe" has been thoroughly alcohol-steam cleaned and sterilized using my special rig. Virtually all the oxidation has been removed from the mouthpiece. I have been careful to preserve the logo. Then the bowl and
stem have been polished with Carnauba wax and buffed with care.
